How it works

Three steps, no sales calls

  1. Upload your quotes

PDFs or phone photos of 2 or 3 roofing quotes. One works too, but comparing is where the grade earns its keep.

  2. We grade them

Our AI reads every line using a checklist written by a working roofer, and lines the quotes up apples to apples.

  3. You get a clear pick

On screen in about a minute: a letter grade for each quote, the red flags, and questions to ask before you sign.

What we check

The lines that change the price later

Quotes rarely differ on the shingle. They differ on what's left out, and that turns into change orders once the old roof is off.

  • ✓
Roof sizeDid every contractor measure the same number of squares?
  • ✓
Tear-offHow many layers come off, and is disposal included?
  • ✓
Underlayment and ice & water shieldType, and where it goes: eaves, valleys, around penetrations.
  • ✓
Flashing and drip edgeNew metal, or reusing what's there?
  • ✓
VentilationIntake and exhaust. Poor ventilation can void a shingle warranty.
  • ✓
Plywood allowanceHow many sheets are included, and the price per sheet after that.
  • ✓
WarrantyManufacturer coverage plus the contractor's own workmanship years.
  • ✓
Contractor and payment termsLicense number, deposit size, payment schedule, and permit.

Our pick

Go with Contractor B. It costs $2,350 more than A, but it includes ice and water shield, intake ventilation, three sheets of plywood, and a 10-year workmanship warranty. Contractor C measured 4 fewer squares and shows no license number, so its low price is unlikely to hold.

Who grades your quotes

Built by a roofer, on your side of the table

QuoteGrader was started by a working roofing contractor who writes quotes for a living and knows exactly where they get vague. That checklist is built into every grade, so it works for you instead of the seller.

  • We don't sell leadsYour name, address, and quotes are never passed to contractors.
  • No paid rankingsContractors can't pay to be recommended or to see your report.
  • Same rules for our ownOur founder owns a roofing company. If its quote is in your stack, it's graded on the same checklist as everyone else, and the report says so right next to the recommendation.

Questions

Before you upload

Is it really free?

Yes, while we're in beta. We're testing whether homeowners find the grade useful. You won't be asked for a card.

How long does it take?

Usually one to two minutes. Keep this page open while it works. If something goes wrong, we'll grade your quotes by hand and email the report within one business day.

Who sees my quotes?

Our AI reads them to build your report, and a copy comes to our team so we can follow up if anything goes wrong. We never share your quotes or contact details with contractors.

Can I trust an AI grade?

It follows a roofer's checklist and only reports what's written in your quotes. If something isn't on the page, it says "Not stated" instead of guessing. Use it to ask better questions, and confirm anything important with the contractor in writing.

Will contractors start calling me?

No. We don't sell leads and we don't pass your information to anyone.

I only have one quote. Can you still help?

Yes. We'll grade it against what a complete roofing quote should include and give you questions to ask. Comparing two or three quotes gives you a sharper answer.

Do you come out and look at my roof?

No. We grade the quotes, not the roof. If something in the quotes suggests the roof needs a closer look, we'll say so.

My insurance company is paying. Can you help?

Yes. Upload your adjuster's estimate along with the contractor quotes and we'll compare them line by line. We don't negotiate with insurers or give legal advice.

Should I black out my address first?

You can. We need your ZIP code and the contractor names, but not your street address.
